2013 Rural Workshop Participants at

Fourteen students from four regional educational institutions attended the 2013 Rural Health Workshop which began on Monday, July 18, with a reception dinner and tour in Cumberland, Allegany County, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center (a part of the Western Maryland Health System). 

The next day, July 19, students toured the Allegany and Garrett County Local Health Departments, Garrett County Memorial Hospital and two Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs): Tri-State Community Health Center in Cumberland and Mountain Laurel Medical Center in Oakland, Maryland. There were two 2 Pharm D students, 2 Dental students, 5 Medical students, 3 Advance Practice Nursing students, and  2 pre-med undergraduate students focused on pre-med.
 
The weekend ended with a dinner reception at The Wisp in McHenry, Maryland on Friday evening and Zip-lining on Saturday morning. Via feedback from those attending, a good time was had by all. Highlights included personal, one-on-one time with rural practitioners, health department, hospital and FQHC personnel and, of course, the Zip-line!
